The grievances can be for various reasons like:
- Pay and Benefits:This is the most common area employees complain about. These grievances may involve the amount of money given to the employees with respect to their qualifications matching the pay scales, equal payment and opportunity of work within the organization, and the cost and coverage related to the benefit programs.
- Workloads: Heavy workloads or work pressure are another and very common workplace grievance. The workers working for a company that is going through a period of recession, quite often they are being asked to take on more work without an increase in their salary. In case of low manpower, the company instead assigns additional workforce increasing the work load of the existing employees, and this situation leads to employee frustration and dissatisfaction.
- Work Conditions: A safe and secured working environment is important to provide employee satisfaction and motivation. Employees who find the company is not providing all these things may decide to file a grievance.
- Union and Management Relations: When the employees are represented by the unions both the company and the union must abide by proper rules and regulations to avoid certain grievances from both ends.
- Quick Action: – The action must be taken as soon as the problem arises. The Human Resource team must train the managerial department of an organization to tactfully handle the grievances of the employees.
- Acknowledging Grievances: – Acknowledging the grievances in time by a manager reflects his or her responsibility about knowing the problems of the employer and it proves that he or she is eager to solve the employee problems.
- Examining the cause of Grievances: – No problem can be solved unless and until the cause of it is known.
- Deciding the plans and programs: – After identifying the problem the next step should be to implement various plans and programs to solve the grievance.
